20% of Global Warming is caused by deforestation.

Various scientific sources:   ranging from 18% to 25%

Deforestation causes 2 Billion tonnes/year of carbon dioxide to be emitted into the atmosphere, more than all cars and trucks together.

1 gallon of gasoline burned by an automobile creates 19 pounds of CO2.

116 gallons ( 2.76 barrels) creates 1 tonne of CO2.

CO2 is caused by natural conditions 66% of the time.

The world’s oceans absorb a million tonnes of carbon dioxide an hour.

That is one third the rate at which it is dumped by burning fossil fuels.  Dissolved in seawater it causes carbonic acid. Seawater is naturally alkaline, but it is becoming less so.

Carbon dioxide is on the rise. In 1958 there were 315.71 ppm and in 2007 there are 386.54 ppm.

Tropical plantations yield 10 to 20 times the amount of carbon dioxide sequestration as do northern temperate deciduous (leaf) forests, because of year round growing conditions, ample sunlight and rainfall.

There are 460 million Christmas trees growing in 2007 on US plantations.  Each hectare produces enough oxygen to supply the daily needs of 45 people. (18 people per acre).

Ethanol from Corn yields 50 gallons/acre /year (123.5 gals/hectare/year)

Biodiesel from Jatropha yields 364 gallons/acre/year (900 gals/hectare/year)

Another source says that Jatropha can yield up to 3200 liters/ hectare/year,which is 844 gals/hectare/year.  Climate and water effect yield.

Jatropha trees will produce a reduction of 20 tonnes of CO2 per year per hectare for 40 years.  (In addition add the 9.4 tonnes per year for clean burning biodiesel created from the seeds).   29.4 tonnes total.
To sequester 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 per year would require approximately 48,000 hectares. 43.2 million gallons of biodiesel could be produced (271,728 barrels).

President George Bush has declared a goal of producing 7.5 Billion barrels of Alternative Fuels (to be burned) by the year 2010.

China became aware that it was producing deserts.  It now tops the world in afforestion with 54 million hectares (133 million acres) of man-made forests.  The Chinese people have planted 49.2 billion trees since 1981.  China planted 2 million trees in 2006
